Every story card now names the character whose eyes the chapter is told from. Tap the name, pick someone else, and the card is rewritten from where they stand — so the vantage is a choice you make, not something you discover by reading. Leave it on Auto and nothing changes. Coming to the iOS app in the next few days.
The writer in the app can now change its mind. Rewrite a chapter with a note about what to change, restart it from scratch, or take back just the last stretch NovelX wrote — and undo any of it if you preferred what you had. All from the ··· menu, without opening the website.
Chapters written in the app now keep their earlier drafts. Open Version History from the ··· menu, look back through what a chapter used to be, and restore any version you want. Rewrite as freely as you like — the draft you liked is still there.
Your conversations are easier to find and tell apart. Each character has one card showing how many chats you have had with them, every previous conversation shows its last message, and starting a new one keeps the story you had chosen. You can also ask a character for a different reply.
Your library can now be sorted by Last edited, so the story you worked on most recently sits at the top and picking up where you left off takes one click. It is in the sort menu, directly under Newest first. Asked for twice on Discord — thank you.
Your story is far less likely to circle back on itself as it grows. Long chapters used to lose variety toward the end — the same beat, the same paragraph, coming round again. They now hold their range from the first line to the last. This is a big change to how we write, and we’re still improving it.
Like four of your five characters? Take a fresh pass at just the one. Reshuffle gives that character a new description and personality while they keep the same face, so the person you pictured is still the person you get. Nothing changes until you accept it, so press it as often as you like.
Write to a character in your language and the conversation stays there — from your first message to your last, instead of drifting into English partway through. It holds across all sixteen languages we support, and a short message no longer pulls your chat off course.
The choices for what happens next now appear sooner once a chapter finishes, and they’re waiting for you by the time you get there. If one is slow in coming, the story quietly sorts it out on its own — so you’re never left at the end of a chapter with nowhere to go.
The character’s reply now reads as prose on the page instead of sitting in a chat bubble, and their controls moved into the header. Photos can take on a different look — choose a style before you send. And any message can become a story: long-press it on your phone, or use the ⋯ menu on desktop. Copy, edit and delete now work on mobile too.
Publishing your story and letting others build on it used to be one decision — refusing the second meant unpublishing the first. A reader asked for exactly this split. Now, if your story is public and on Explore, you decide whether others may use it as a template for their own creations. The switch is in your story settings.
The library went wide — six covers to a row, twenty-four to a page. Starting a story no longer sends you back out through the marketing page; the idea box opens where you are. And your conversations finally have their own address: Stories, Chats and Characters as three shelves in one place.
Listening got steadier. Playback used to start from the wrong paragraph, skip sections, or stop early and quietly — and pressing play could do nothing at all. Now it begins where it should, waits visibly when the next audio is still being made, and play always produces sound.
Continuing a story into a new part could quietly lose what you had set — heat, story language and word preferences, on roughly half of new parts. A Russian series could come back in English. New parts now inherit your choices, and the recap keeps its opening line.
Writing does not have to be dark. The editor now offers a light theme, and the gradient background can be turned off for a plain surface. Both are free, and the control sits in the header next to your avatar.
Export is no longer PDF only. One Export button now lets you choose the scope and the format: EPUB for e-readers with the cover and images included, Markdown for Obsidian or Scrivener, plain Text to paste anywhere, and PDF as before.
Pick a character from your Library and start a brand-new story with them, instead of importing them after chapter one is written. You can also share any character by link — whoever opens it can save them to their own library and write with them.
Explore has a rebuilt browsing surface: filters sit inside the search field, the trope picker opens as a full overlay, spice level reads as a word instead of a number, and every shelf on the homepage opens its own slice of the catalog. Coming back from a story returns you where you were.
Accented characters could be corrupted in saved text — a German Körper coming back as K 246;rper, Polish dashes frozen into raw code — which also affected search and the AI’s memory of the chapter. Chinese chapters were separately failing length checks and reading as cut off. Both are fixed.
Voice, heat taste, world setup, and story instructions are now available in Workshop. Set them before the first chapter is written instead of discovering the wrong voice afterward. Open Fine-tune on the Vibe line.
Character chats now keep their history well past the old 200-message limit, so long conversations stop forgetting how they started. You can also set replies to Short, Medium, or Long — both live in the scene setup panel.
Deep Chapter is now included with yearly membership: 3,000+ word chapters with cinematic pacing and richer scenes. Find it in the editor toolbar, AI settings, or the workshop header.
Story writing now reaches for a wider range when showing emotion — distance, posture, voice, breath, light, sound, stillness — instead of falling back on hands so often.
A single “too slow” or “too fast” note now changes the very next generation instead of waiting for a pattern to build. Pacing feedback sent from the iOS app now reaches story writing too.
NovelX now detects the language of a new story idea and carries it through Workshop and AI writing. Choose from 16 story languages, with language-matched narration where supported.
My Stories and Characters now support full-library search, filters, and sorting. You can also mark stories In progress or Completed and filter by progress.
Character chats now hold onto the conversation language, recover from wrong-language drift, and stop in-progress replies cleanly when you switch or delete chats.
New chapter generation now uses the chapter’s saved location alongside its outline, so scenes are less likely to jump back to an earlier setting.
Fixed a size limit that could block saving or adding chapters in very long stories. Navigation data now stays compact while full chapter plans remain preserved.
Premium members can now choose Unfiltered for editor images and character avatars, with editable appearance tags, style choices, and optional direction so adult visuals can match the exact look and vibe you want.
Story generation now plans openings and continuations more deliberately, follows through on the chosen moment, avoids familiar repeated phrasing, and can quietly retry takes that come out too repetitive.
Explore now has catalog-wide search, multi-tag filters, All Stories and Audio views, live story counts, and easier browsing, while the homepage has a new hand-picked Featured shelf.
If a directed generation gets interrupted, Continue now remembers the unfinished instruction and carries it forward instead of dropping the rest of your prompt.
When regenerating a story cover, you can now choose the style, content level, exact characters, and an optional direction in one cleaner flow, with Fix this cover nearby for one-detail changes.
You can now tune a story's heat style more directly: pin More or Less for specific taste axes, use presets, and add vocabulary preferences so the writing stays closer to your exact vibe.
Character chats can now use a linked story as context. Pick a story from the chat sidebar, or choose No story context, so the character can answer with the right canon and recent events.
Character chat replies can now be played as audio, and characters have a Voice tab where you can choose the spoken voice used for chat playback.
Long stories now carry deeper story-so-far context into continuation ideas, helping new chapters follow the real current arc instead of falling back to old premise details.
Chapter rewrite now has Fresh draft and Revise draft modes, so you can either regenerate the chapter or ask NovelX to keep the current draft and only change what your note requests.
Character chats can now start from the exact setup you want. Set a scenario, choose your role, and pick the spice level before starting a new chat, or adjust the scene for an active chat.
The homepage now has a Story / Chat switch, so you can describe a character and jump straight into the character creation and chat flow.
Scenario choices and AI writing now do a better job paying off the current moment while leaving a concrete next pressure for the story.
Your Library now shows the true total number of stories in your account, even when only part of the list is loaded, so bigger libraries are easier to understand at a glance.
Story Memory is the AI’s live continuity board for your story. It tracks canon, open threads, cast state, relationships, and places, and lets you correct or lock the details NovelX should preserve.
Image refinement now works beyond story covers. You can refine chapter covers and character avatars after generation: describe the change, compare the new version, then accept it or keep the original.
Full chapter launches and continuations now better honor longer and full-length requests, so bigger scenes have more room to complete the idea.
Apple sign-in is now available on web, making it easier to use the same NovelX account across iPhone and desktop.
You can now move chapters up or down and insert a new chapter between existing chapters, with NovelX keeping chapter numbers, navigation, narration, and next-chapter context aligned.
Narration now detects missing or outdated paragraphs more accurately, offers Generate missing or Refresh narration when needed, retries failed TTS once, and clears stuck generating states automatically.
You can now generate a character’s visual tags from their avatar image, helping NovelX carry the look of uploaded or AI-generated portraits into writing and future images.
