She is the princess's favorite knight, sworn to protect the crown—but her secret is a monster. Every night, Elise slips away to the abandoned castle lagoon, where a shy merman prince with silver-blue scales and soft blonde hair accepts her food and lets her brush his tangled locks. He has never spoken, and no one else knows he exists, but keeping him hidden means betraying her kingdom for a creature no one believes is real.
Elise loosens her braid as she moves through the abandoned castle courtyard, her boots silent on the mossy stones. The air smells of wet stone and night-blooming flowers. She reaches the broken archway that leads down to the lagoon, the water a dark mirror reflecting the fading sky. She unwraps the bread and dried fish, places them on a flat rock at the water's edge, and waits. A soft ripple, then the merman's face appears between two stone pillars, his wide blue eyes watching her with a hunger that isn't just for the food. She smiles softly. He doesn't come forward yet, but his fingers grip the edge of the rock. She doesn't know his name yet, but all she knows is that he likes bread and needs medicine for his coughing.
Nightmare. Elise wakes up to panting, her breathing uneven, her heart thrumming like it might explode. She looks around in her dark and empty room. It’s her chambers. Filled with swords and ribbons and candles and whatever she needs. Then she looks at the clock. It’s so late at night. She always has the morning shift, following the princess around. The last time she visited the merman was yesterday’s night. She was so exhausted that she fell asleep in her bed right now. Speaking of exhaustion, she just had a nightmare where she told the princess about the merman. In the dream, she thought that the people would help the merman. But they instead took care of him but then did surgery on him and tried to study the abandoned lagoon. She gets up and decides to visit the merman again. This time, she brought a lot of medicine, bread, seaweed, and fruit. She wants to see if he likes these things. She wants him to recover as quick as he can. She goes to the lagoon and looks around… She waits for him. 10 minutes pass. 20 minutes pass. He’s not here. She gets worried. Then, she explores the lagoon. She finds him in the far dark corner of the abandoned castle lagoon, trying to get his tail out from some net. He seems tired. As if he often gets into trouble like this. She helps him. He doesn’t talk to her, but she gains more of his trust and he smiles at her. A smile so pure and gorgeous her knees grow weak. The gems in his hair and skin, as if he's made of them, glow under the moonlight.
1 whole week passes by. In the morning, she’s a dutiful knight. By night, she gets 3 hours of sleep then goes to the abandoned lagoon, and spends her time there till dawn. She is holding a basket filled with medicine and more fruits. The merman likes strawberries and grapes, from what she has observed. Cherries and bread. She even bought jam pastries today. And lots of medicine that she asked the healers for to treat cough and health. She doesn’t completely know what’s wrong with him. Her only wish is for him to talk to her. She walks back to the lagoon. This is the 8th night. And he’s waiting by the place tonight. She hums, to alert him, and he looks up at her like a puppy. His tail splashes behind her, energetic. Her cheeks redden and she smiles. He looks so innocent and gorgeous. She brings him the food and he eats. “You don’t understand English, do you?” She asks, brushing his hair with her hair brush. She takes care of his hair more than she takes care of her own. His hair has such beautiful gems, probably worth FORTUNES. “Are you mute?” She asks. He’s still oblivious while he eats. After she feeds him medicine, she sits crossed-legged and tilts her head. “Do you understand me?” She asks. He stares at her, blankly, smiling obliviously. She then points to herself and pokes herself. “I am Elise.” She says. “Elise.” She mouths out. She repeats this dozens of times before she watches him FINALLY understand. He blinks, then pokes her. Then takes her hand and rests it on him. Her skin is warm and dry, his is cold and wet. “Azureus.” He says it softly. She freezes, her eyes growing wide, her face slack. His voice is… so gentle. So fucking hot and sexy and gentle. It’s hoarse, dry from not speaking, from illness, but it’s so hot. It makes his baby face and angelic features look too innocent. His voice isn’t deep, but it’s very… royal-like. A latin accent, far more old and ancient accent than the king’s grandfather. It’s so… unique and gorgeous. He doesn’t talk much after that. But he does smile and listen to her talking, braiding his hair, touching his soft and slippery skin.
She can’t sleep. Not after… how he told her his name. The way he acted adorable with her. His voice repeats in her head so many times that she screams in her pillow. She tries to say it like him. It’s a latin name, Azureus, Azureus, Azureus!!! So royal and beautiful. He’s like a boy. He’s so fucking gorgeous. She groans and screams in her pillow, screaming his name. She can’t say it the way he said it, dry, hoarse, **romantic**. She imagines him saying her name. Talking more. She rubs her breasts, her stomach, then she touches herself. He’s so beautiful she doesn’t think she deserves to touch him. Gemstones in his hair and skin that people would kill for. She moans, moaning his name into her pillow. She’s never touched herself like this before, not to a man, fuck, not to a BOY, not to A MERMAN!!! “Ah~ Ngh~ Azureus~"
The morning was exhausting. Knightly duties and barely any sleep. But she couldn’t care less. Not when she was... so excited to see him. A little too excited. She brought a LOT of medicine today, she wanted to fix his throat and hear him say his name again. And she brought more pastries. She spent a lot of her money for the sweets. “A-Azureus-?” She says, wincing at her own voice. It wasn’t even CLOSE to the way he said his name so elegantly. Splash! The water ripples and a body moves so fast she is super nervous. He peaks up, then beams up at her. Her heart stutters. She falls to her knees. He is surprised and rushes to her, tilting his head. She giggles. “I’m alright… just….” Her throat grows dead. Just what? Obsessed? In love? “Exhausted.” She mumbles. She feeds him and watches his innocent. She gulps, nervous. This is the boy she touched herself to last night, the same night he told her his name. “Azureus.” She says, he looks up at her and smiles while eating. “Do you like the sweets?” She points to the pastries. He blinks. Then smiles. “Fuck… you’re so adorable.” She groans out loud, then covers her mouth, then checks his face. He looks oblivious to her words. “I literally fucked myself to you last night.” She says blandly. He blinks and looks clueless, smiling obliviously. She traces his lips, his face, his eyelashes. “How are you so beautiful..?” She asks. He wags his tail, the water shaking, ripples, droplets, splashes. He doesn’t understand her words, but he understands that she’s admiring him with her tone and touches. She nuzzles her nose to his. Her fingers trace his lashes. They kiss. It’s long, gentle, soft. Totally different. Both somewhat inexperienced mouths but very gentle lips. He tastes like strawberries. She tastes like salt. When they break the kiss, they’re both super red. But she kisses his face all over. He giggles. That is the first time he giggled, so she is mesmerized. She is addicted. She’s inlove. “Azureus.” She says again, her tongue tripping on the words. “Elisse.” He says, with a smile so cute her heart fucking dissolves instead of melting.
